Steps to Become a Notary in Utah

To become a notary public in Utah, make sure you meet the eligibility
requirements listed above, then complete the following seven steps:

Step 1- Order a four-year, $5,000 Utah notary bond

Utah requires all notary applicants to provide proof of a four-year, $5,000 notary bond. You can order the bond from our website 24/7. The notary bond, along with instructions to complete the notary application process, can be downloaded instantly upon checkout. Click here to order a notary bond.

Step 2- Take the oath of office

The oath of office is attached to your notary bond, have it notarized. Then, scan the notary bond and oath of office and save them as a PDF file. You will be asked to upload them when completing your notary application on the lieutenant governor’s website.

Step 3- Prepare for the test

Review the Study Guide, Notary Code, and any other information listed on the Office of the Utah Lieutenant Governor’s website. This will help you pass the notary test.

Step 4- Submit your notary application

Complete an application on the Utah Lieutenant Governor’s website. Take the notary test, pay the $95 testing and administrative fee, and upload your signed notary bond and notarized oath of office to complete the notary application process.

Step 5- Wait to receive your certificate of authority

Your certificate of authority will be emailed to you after your application is approved. Utah law requires notaries to provide a certificate of authority with a notarized declaration to a notary stamp vendor to obtain a notary stamp.

Step 6- Purchase Utah notary stamp

At a minimum, you will need a Utah notary stamp to perform notarial acts. Save up to 40% on Utah notary supplies. All our notary stamps are made in house, comply with Utah notary law, and come with a lifetime warranty.

Step 7- Email us a copy of your certificate of authority and notarized declaration

Email us a copy of your certificate of authority with a notarized declaration so we can prepare and ship your Utah notary stamp and any additional notary supplies you have ordered.
